Viewpoints – The view over Stuttgart
My tip: It’s worth combining a stay in Stuttgart with a visit to a viewpoint.
To get to know the city, to get an overview and to find your bearings. Or as a break to escape the hustle and bustle and take a deep breath. Or at the end of your visit, to review your experiences from above.
In the following, I will introduce you to some of the most beautiful vantage points in Stuttgart.
These places with a view are worth a visit:

The Fernsehturm (television tower): the city’s landmark
There is hardly a point in the city from which it cannot be seen.
The city’s landmark, with its reinforced concrete construction, marks the beginning of a new era in tower construction.
But a visit to the Stuttgart TV tower is not just about an impressive structure; it also offers breathtaking views that you won’t forget in a hurry. At 216 meters, the TV tower is the tallest structure in the city, and its viewing platform offers spectacular 360-degree views of Stuttgart and the surrounding vineyards.
My tip: go up there at night to see the city sparkling in the dark. A visit to the TV tower is not just a trip to a local landmark, but also an invitation to experience Stuttgart from a completely new perspective!

Other observation towers
- The Bahnhofsturm would normally be the first place to go after arriving in Stuttgart (at least if you arrive by train). The tower is currently closed due to the reconstruction of the train station (an alternative is the roof of the public library – see below).
- In the middle of Killesberg Park stands the stylish and beautiful Killesberg Tower (picture).
You can reach Killesberg in 6 minutes with the U7 from Schlossplatz. Or from the main station with the 44 bus. It is advisable to plan some time for the park. - The Bismarck Tower is very close by.
more information
From the top you have one of the best views of the valley basin. The tower is only open on Sundays, but the square in front of it also offers a good view.

Building with a good view
- Very close to the train station, you have a wonderful view from the roof of the new municipal library (picture).
Since I think a visit is a must, you can combine it with a trip to the roof. - When the weather is nice, you can enjoy the view from the Sky Beach Stuttgart on the roof of the Galeria Kaufhof parking garage (opposite the main train station). The Sky Beach is closed during the winter months.

Squares/parks
- Santiago-de-Chile-Platz
The square is an insider tip for all those who love to gaze into the distance. Those who take the rack railway up from Marienplatz can already catch a few glimpses during the ride. Once at the top, a panoramic view opens up over the Stuttgart basin to the Europaviertel behind the main train station, over the vineyards and the Neckar valley.
The square, which was renamed in 2006 after the Chilean capital, is home to sculptures that convey a South American flair: a Moai from the Easter Islands, a memorial stone from the Maipo Valley and a bust of Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral.
From Santiago de Chile Square, you can continue on to the TV tower. Info/How to get there - Eugensplatz
Eugensplatz is a real gem in Stuttgart, not only offering a breathtaking view of the city but also quick and easy access from the city center. Whether you decide on a relaxed ride on the subway or the fitness-boosting option via the Eugensstaffel, the journey there is a pleasure.
In summer, the ice cream parlor entices passersby with refreshing ice cream while they enjoy the view of the city.
A special eye-catcher is the approximately three-meter-high limestone column with a pug, which has commemorated the humorist Vicco von Bülow, better known as Loriot, since 2013. He lived near the square from 1938 to 1941.
The imposing Galatea Fountain gives Eugensplatz a majestic charm and invites you to linger. Info/Directions - Karlshöhe
Karlshöhe is a viewing platform, park and beer garden all in one.
From the beer garden and the viewing platform, you can see into the distance.
Parts of the park used to be a quarry, where the stones for the New Palace in Stuttgart were quarried.
The arduous ascent to 340 meters is worth it. - Tea house and Weißenburgpark
The Villa Weißenburg of the industrialist Sieglin used to stand here. Today, a viewing platform, the tea house with a beautiful beer garden and the marble hall, where events and festivals take place, remain. It can be reached via the Bopser underground station.

Walks and hikes
Es gibt viele Möglichkeiten, auf den Stuttgarter Höhen zu wandern und dabei die verschiedensten Ausblicke zu genießen.
There are many opportunities for hiking on Stuttgart’s hills and enjoying a wide variety of views.
Two of them are particularly recommended
- Birkenkopf (Monte Scherbelino)
Hike to the summit of the mountain of rubble from the Second World War with a magnificent view over Stuttgart and into the distance. - Blauer Weg
(High) hiking trail between Stuttgart South and West.
