Suggestions for a perfect day in Stuttgart

Tower of the conservatory

View over the Stuttgart basin

The city center is surrounded by hills. There are numerous viewpoints up there. Whether you get fit and work up a sweat on foot via the Stäffele (stairs) or get there by public transport – the reward is an excellent overview of Stuttgart.

There are also several places in the city center that offer a wonderful view from above.

I like to start or end my guest tours with such a view of the city.

Some suggestions can be found under Views.

Sehenswürdigkeit Zahnradbahn Stuttgart
Cog railroad at Marienplatz

Getting here and getting around

Stuttgart had and still has the image of a car city. Nevertheless, driving into the city by car is no fun.
However, public transport in the Stuttgart region is excellently organized in the Stuttgart Transport Association (VVS).
With a cog railroad and a funicular railroad, the VVS offers worthwhile attractions.
In the city center, the most important sights are within easy walking distance.

More Stuttgart tips on the VVS can be found under Local transport.

Not just for rainy days – the museums

Stuttgart is rich in museums that are really worth seeing:

  • Architecturally, the Staatsgalerie and the Haus der Geschichte, the Porsche Museum and the Mercedes-Benz Museum are real eye-catchers.
  • In terms of the appealing and modern presentation of the exhibits, the Haus der Geschichte, the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Stadtpalais are particularly impressive.

There is at least one museum for every taste.

You can find a selection of my top 15 museums here.

Mombachquelle - sprudelndes Mineralwasser

The treasure from the depths – mineral water without end

My favorite topic – and that’s where I go into raptures: After Budapest, Stuttgart has the most mineral springs in Europe – a unique treasure!

There are three large, very different mineral baths where you can spend relaxing hours.

I also know 15 mineral springs where you can drink and taste the different mineral waters.

More information here under mineral water.
